And the output transformer will be upgraded to the Hammonds 30W sized Output Transformer 12 lbs each alone! And we are happy to announce its design a success. We had quite interesting different opinion when come to the design table on this specific output transformersand at last we mutually agree upon on one set of engineering parameters that makes this the best or nothing. There are also two driver tubes on each channel versus one, two main power supply E-Caps on the RS-R, Dual up use of two choke transformers, same as the high end noiseless potted reference grade power transformer — its capacity and both physical weight is almost doubling up too, as well all the passive capacitors and parts are more, or bigger.

We take the power supply very serious on the RS-R. The beefed up power transformer is also hand made by ourselves to handle the extra voltage on this design, as well to have running temperature and quietness to the refinement level we wanted.

Then the dual James high end potted choke transformers setup for superior AC filtering on each section. One of the choke to feed the tubes and its dedicated power supply E-Cap, and the other choke to feed the dual e-caps to the power supply stages, along with the high quality made power transformer making it one of the quietest B tube amp from around the world.

Its not easy to master the beauty it of it — circuitry wise, although it seem easy to construct, but it is hard to mastered. It IS expensive to unleash its potential, on the hardware side. And that is why most B amps on the market either failed it or measured far from the best, because they had to work with budget.

Unfortunately there is no way around quality with budget, at least with tube amps. And high quality tube amps, especially triode tube amps, are suppose to be expensive.

The first thing in getting it right is the output transformers, without a good quality and properly made pair by a hifi transformers manufacture, the B will not sing and unleash its potential. You can get away with other tubes, but not B. Here, a high quality pair of Canadian made to our specifications are used, it is 30W rated minimum is 20W for SE B application, but we like to go over sized with good bass and meat — not just mid and highs.

It is over designed for high fidelity, single ended, Class-A. With frequency response at least 20 hz to 20 khz at full power! For the power transformer, its even more serious — again, made in Canada with conservative designs that is reliable and able to provide seamless power deliveries — CSA certified, as well it was made with high quality specs such as passing HIPOT test of 2,V RMS, and made with Class A insulation degree C …etc.

12 gauge signal cannon

All these transformers are not just used because they are good, it also has to do with reliability and safety that we care as much. It will have more phase shift, more roll offs, less natural, more distortions, and you name it. To us, its just sound better with a one stage design over 2 stages. The Monza will be construct on a copper top plate, over a electronic black powered coated aluminum chassis.

With three large transformers sits in the back of the tubes. It will be a handsome retro style construction. We are working with James Corp, to come up with 3 same sized transformers for the perfect uniformed looks.

The B tube works very well in traditional circuits and this is part of the reason why this ancient triode has become so famous worldwide.

We appreciate the achievements of old-fashioned single- ended B amplifiers, but the dream of the full potential of B for musical reproduction has only come true with the creation of the ECB amplifier. Our design is carefully tailored to furnish ideal drive conditions for the output tube, opening the door to dramatic new levels of low-end articulation and dynamic excitement for single-ended B amplifiers.

The ample 10 watt output of the ECB provides full-bodied musical reproduction that you will appreciate for a long, long time. The result of our intensive research, the ECB, is a completely modern amplifier dedicated to the timeless quest for musical enjoyment. Power Tube. Power consumption. Features -An Adaptation of IITC circuit concept featuring a unique configuration which cancels DC magnetization in the interstage transformer for outstanding bass performance and rich musical reproduction.

We avoid coupling capacitors to ensure maximum purity of reproduction.Welcome, Guest.

Hi, all I am looking to build my own 2A3 or b Mono block amps, and matching tube pre-amp and need advise. It is my first venture into amp building. Brap Certifiable Posts: You may want to check out Transcendent Audio. They have a great forum too. BobM Audio Neurotic Posts: The adventure of building something yourself is always a great one.

You will likely learn a lot. Just be careful, make sure your solder joins are good, test along the way, power it up slowly with a varistor.

Basically, a decent kit will also have decent instructions. Read a few on-line articles on DIY tube amp building before you start to see what you are up against. Tube amps have high voltage, and can be dangerous.

Can't emphasize that enough. But to me, DIY is a whole 'nother end to this hobby that many people don't explore, and it can be very rewarding. Laugh and the world laughs with you. Cry and you'll have to blow your nose. Once I get comfortable in reading schematics and working with tubes. Link to articles on where he lays out everything and does a pretty good job of explaining.

Welcome to AudioNervosa seadogs!! Since it is your first amp project, I would strongly recommend to buy a complete kit with all parts included, and which also provides good tech support.

When you make a goof you will be very glad you picked a kit with good support. Welborne Labs doesn't make the Moondog kit anymore.January World Premiere! Triode Lab Ltd. Review By Rick Becker. S ome people might argue that it is not healthy for a reviewer to review a lot of products from the same manufacturer. A reviewer's affinity toward a type of component or a brand can be established in an initial review. And this can lead a manufacturer to offer another product to that same reviewer as a "known entity", time and again.

I'll plead "guilty as charged" for multiple reviews of Coincident Speaker Technology speakers and electronics, and now, Triode Lab tube amplifiers. Both of these companies make great gear and for the most part, offer products at fair, real world prices. Quite simply, they make great gear that audiophiles and music lovers should know about. Their stuff will enhance people's lives and I don't feel a bit guilty about reviewing so much of it.

I've bought a fair amount of Coincident gear, but I've yet to purchase a review sample from Triode Lab. Not because it isn't good, but because their amps I've reviewed fit a narrow niche of low powered tube amps that require high efficiency speakers.

Triode Roundup: Seven “Common Man” 300B Tubes Compared

The Triode Lab Ltd. So, was the Coincident a better amplifier at less money? Well, it was differentand different doesn't always mean better, which brings me back to the fact that this is the fourth Triode Lab amp I've had for review. The advantage of reviewing so many is that it puts me in a position to sort out the differences among them.

Hopefully, you will have been around long enough to develop an awareness of your own acoustic preferences and how you might want your favorite music to sound.

And hopefully your listening room will be the size and shape necessary to achieve your preferences with gear you can actually afford. Personal preference is a key concept, not only for determining what gear is best for you, but also for understanding the bias of the reviewer, who is also endowed with a set of preferences.

Class A Single Ended Triode VS Class D solid state.

Surely by now you've figured out I'm a tube guy. I revel in the sense of space and the tonal color that vacuum tubes deliver. I don't necessarily insist on pinpoint imaging, as that rarely occurs or is relevant in listening to live music, but a sense of large space can be intoxicating for me. And the absolute sound? Well, I listen to some live music, but many times I find the venue and the audience experience, as well as the preferred listening level of the sound man to be limiting factors.Scarborough Toronto, Canada.

Full suit Hashimoto Trans with custom specification power transformer. Short and accurate signal path for the most organic music replay while sustaining durability and reliability.

The sound has texture detail unlike any I have ever heard. The sound is relaxing and easy but maintains detail and resolution. The bass is firm and solid, but not as quick or detailed as solid state amplification. But texture is the main strength, I have never heard such realistic texture and tone.

The clarity and bandwidth are surprisingly good, voices are easy to understand. Voices are also convincing and visceral, a rare quality in my experience. Great job, Frank! Single Ended Triode Mono Amplifiers. No negative feedback design optional default with NFD and recommended.

Its our best shot in 2A3 SET design. Rectify tube use: 5R4 tube perfectly. With 5U4, we were able to measured a max power of 11 Watts.

This was a fun assignment, but also tedious. The bottom line? That said, each tube had its strong points, and I tried to take a somewhat objective approach to the comparison work. I had help there, so some acknowledgements are in order first.

This worked out really well. The Finale amp stayed with me until the end of October, and many of the back to back shootout rounds were done with it. September was when most of the critical listening sessions happened.

Which probably helped me stay more objective. Before starting, I ran all the tubes in for hours, since they were new. One of them had a short, and since it was the only pair available at the time, they were unfortunately eliminated from the review. I did make an effort to get others, but none were forthcoming.

In my view this is still an important review: the B is not a cheap triode by any means, and the most desired variants border on unobtanium. The tubes on review here are the workhorses providing daily duty to thousands of B amp owners. I needed to select some music that could be used to analyze the strengths or weaknesses in each tube. The rating scale waswith minimum 0. The music ranged from Springsteen to Mussorgsky, but in between, mostly well-known jazz.

What did I learn in the process? Chinese power triodes like the B have come a long way in the last few years. Shootouts are a lot of work. Absolutely not. Would it be more definitive with a panel of listeners?

Probably not, just more complicated. No, thanks. These are tubes, for crying out loud. Tube rolling is supposed to be fun. Having said all that ……no one has done a B Shootout since around I got the opportunity, and thought yeah, it was time for one. My last challenge with getting started, was, where to start?

I mean, with the ratings. What this means is that with each new piece of music, the 98 set the tone and received a 7.

What can I say, if you have a less arbitrary methodology, and can convince people to care, more powah. These are the results of scoring each tube against the same music. Simply put, the PX was the best tube in the bunch, for me. Height, width and depth of soundstage — combined with instrument separation — were all superior to the other tubes.

The Lions appear to be ruggedly built, too. I give these tubes a top recommendation. Also an excellent tube, though it is quite pricey in comparison to the others here. Very balanced sound, detailed, just slightly warm.
